Spain shot-stopper David de Gea believes his national team is still the “best in the world.” The player is confident they will do well in this year’s World Cup in Brazil.

Long Season

Though La Furja Roja won the previous World Cup in Brazil and the Euro Cups before and after that, many claims they are on a decline. In last year’s Confederations Cup final, Spain was beat comprehensively by Brazil, three to nil.

The Manchester United goalkeeper said, “It’s been a long and hard season for many of the national team players but they are the best in the world and hopefully we can win the title.”

“I’m happy to be here. In the Under-21s I played good football for several years, trying to play the same game as the best and with some very good players.”

Déjà vu

Spain will face the Netherlands as they begin their title defense on June 13. The Dutch football team was the other finalist in the last World Cup. Chile and Australia are the other nations drawn into Group B.
